Richmond Information Richmond is a rural/residential community between Pittsfield and the New York state line. The town was an early adopter of restrictive zoning, which has served to ensure its bucolic charm. Once an iron mining center, the town is dotted with old ore beds and quarries and the remnants of a blast furnace from the 1800s. Richmond’s 1,604 residents comprise locals who work in surrounding communities and vacation- and second-home owners. The town still is home to a few agricultural operations including Bartlett’s Apple Orchard. Route 41 passes through Richmond and connects to Route 295, which goes into New York state.
